Digest of Education 2004 NCES has just released the Digest of
Education
Statistics, 2004. This publication provides a compilation of statistical
information covering the broad field of education from prekindergarten
through graduate school. Topics in the Digest include: the number of schools
and colleges; teachers; enrollments; graduates; educational attainment;
finances; federal funds for education; employment and income of graduates;

Profile of High School Senior NCES has released a report titled A
Profile of
the American High School Senior in 2004: A First Look. Initial results from
the first follow-up of the education longitudinal study of 2002, presents
initial findings from the first follow-up of the Education Longitudinal
Study of 2002. The report summarizes the demographic and educational
characteristics of the high school senior class of 2004. It also reports on
the senior cohort's mathematics achievement, their expectations for their
future educational attainment, the importance to them of various
institutional characteristics in choosing a college, and their values and

Public School District Finance Peer Search NCES has released the Public
School District Finance Peer Search data tool. The tool lets you compare
the
finances of a school district with its peers. Peer districts are districts
which share similarities among these characteristics: total students;
student/teacher ratio; percent children in poverty; district type; and
locale code. This data tool has just been updated to include 2002-03 fiscal
data and 2003-04 non-fiscal data. When you complete your search you will be
able to generate graphs and download excel spreadsheets with your results.

Positive Trends in Education The Center on Education Policy has released
a
report titled Do You Know the Latest Good News About American Education?.
The report examines positive trends in education in five areas: school

NCES Report on Postsecondary Institutions NCES has released a report
titled
Postsecondary Institutions in the United States: Fall 2004 and Degrees and
Other Awards Conferred: 2003-04. The report presents findings from the
Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) fall 2004 data
collection, which included two survey components: institutional
characteristics for the 2004-05 academic year, and completions covering the

Transition of High School to College The Institute for Educational
Leadership, the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, and
the Stanford Institute for Higher Education Research have released a report
titled The Governance Divide: A Report on a Four-State Study on Improving
College Readiness and Success. The report calls on state policymakers to
create structures and policies that improve the barriers between the K-12
and postsecondary systems, and facilitate working together to improve

Brief on Family Involvement The Southwest Educational Development
Laboratory
