1. Chronicle of Higher Education--Almanac
The Chronicle's 2004-2005 Almanac of Higher Education is now available
online. The Almanac contains national and state-by-state data on colleges
and universities, their students, faculty and staff members, and finances.
The Almanac includes information on: the proportion of colleges who use
various selection criteria for admission; national data on enrollment
trends, faculty salaries, test scores, degrees awarded, tuition and fees,
spending on research and development; and profiles of all 50 states and DC.

2. New Report on Federal Financial Support for Education
A new report from NCES, Federal Support for Education: Fiscal Years 1980 to
2003, provides a comprehensive picture
of total federal financial support for education from fiscal year 1980
through fiscal year 2003. The report includes: dollar amounts spent on
education programs administered by the U.S. Department of Education; grant
recipients under those programs; and trends in federal spending over the

3. New Report on Student Retention and Graduation from College
A new report from the Pell Institute for the Study of Opportunity in Higher
Education, Student Retention and Graduation: Facing the Truth and Living
with the Consequences, recommends that the federal government take specific
steps to improve the college graduation rates of low-income students. The
report also includes a description of who enters college, an assessment of
which demographic is most likely to graduate, and recommendations to
colleges on how best to retain low-income students. To read the report, go
