The
answer to multiple tests

"...For decades, students applying to virtually any U.S. college or
university have had the option of submitting scores from either the SAT or ACT.
Most kids stick with just one, usually based on where they live. The SAT, owned
by New York-based College Board, tends to be the test of choice for students on
the East and West coasts. The ACT, in Iowa City, is most popular in most states
in between.
Comparing test components
"Most admissions experts say the SAT and ACT are equally helpful (or
harmful, in the case of some testing critics) in predicting an applicant's
success as a first-year college student. But the tests aren't the same. Here's
a look at how the two compare. The new SAT makes its debut in March; the ACT
optional writing section will first be offered in February...."
